How we helped Mountain Falls increase their online sales by over 415%

Project Overview

Michael has been in the water game for a few years and in 2020 he decided to take it to another level. Honey Whale approached the Mountain Falls team with a single proposition - to double their sales in 2 months. And we did more than that.

The old store had pizzazz but was lacking depth and connection to the customer. We wanted to create a straight-forward experience where you can buy all the mineral water you need and learn a helluva lot about it at the same time. Did you know that Mountain Falls Mineral Water contains the highest amount of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) than any other spring or mineral water brand in South Africa (and I dare say the world!)?

Execution

We first had to break down what they had been doing before, where they were lacking and how we could fit into their team since team dynamics is crucial to the success of any business. This led us to the point where we had to start redesigning the site as a whole and introduce new features & functions that could speed up the customer’s purchasing process.

Action points:

  • Conducted a photoshoot to get higher quality product images that hold more depth. Before Honey Whale stepped in, product images were bland with white backgrounds.
  • Added in more colour & lifestyle imagery to express the brand’s identity 
  • Conducted Conversion Rate Optimisation process
  • Conducted SEO Audit
  • Built initial SEO Foundation
  • Setup automated abandoned checkout process (we’ve also kept a huge personal touch to it)
  • Began Email Marketing + automations
  • Started building the on-page SEO
  • Started the loyalty program
  • Opened a referral system
  • Began creating more keyword banks around high volume keywords
  • Created a marketing strategy for socials & paid platforms

Results

After all of the above was done, we began pushing more & more traffic through to the store. From the first month, we had already increased their sales by 51%, their traffic by 301% & their conversion rate dropped by 55%

The decrease in Conversion rate didn’t scare us. We knew that pushing more high-quality traffic to the store would affect our conversion rate negatively but only temporarily until our store readjusts. We just had to continue to focus on building better experiences for our customers and engaging with them in meaningful ways - and that’s exactly what we did.

Fast forward about 8 months and the Mountain Falls brand that you see now is miles ahead of its former self with an increase of sales up to 415%, conversion rate increases of 70%, traffic increases of 265%, and increases in total orders up to 557%!

We continue to work with the Mountain Falls Team to this day and are continuously looking for ways to further improve their digital presence and build an even bigger, stronger community.
